• Where do we get on the boat?
The Ocean Runner fleet is located right by the public ferry dock in Cruz Bay. If you are standing on the dock facing the island, just look to your right down the beach. Access is walk in from the beach. If you stop by before the day of your trip to pick up the necessary customs paperwork for trips to the BVI, or simply do not plan to travel to the BVI during your boat trip, a dock side pick up at the National Park Visitation Center dock can be arranged.
  • What time do we meet?
We meet each morning at 8:30 AM in High Tide Restaurant directly in front of the fleet.
  • What should we bring?
If you are touring the British Virgin Islands, a PASSPORT is MANDATORY for the customs clearance. Please feel free to bring lots of water and any other beverages you prefer. We provide an Ice Chest and Ice. You should also bring towels, sunscreen, snorkel gear (if you want to snorkel) and a water proof bag if you have one. Please keep in mind that aerosol sunscreens are strictly prohibited throughout the day!
  • Do we need to bring snorkel gear?
Yes. If you need to rent some gear for the day or for the duration of your stay here on St. John, please visit Low Key Water Sports at the far end of the beach in Cruz Bay. Mention that you are with Ocean Runner to get a discounted rate!
  • What kinds of sunscreen can we bring?
We do ask that you do not bring or use “Sport “ or aerosol types of sun protection as they make the floors very slippery and they stain the upholstery. Rash Guards that have SPF built in are also an excellent option for reducing exposure to the sun. Click to see our selection of rash guards.

Below is a list of suncreens that we believe are "Eco-Friendly/Reef Safe".

  • Do I need a valid passport?
A passport is only required if you plan on visiting the British Virgin Islands (next group of islands over) . If you do not have a passport there are an abundance of islands, snorkeling spots and fun to be had, within the US Virgin Islands waters.
  • Are Passport Cards allowed?
Yes. The use of a Valid US Passports cards for travel to the British Virgin Islands is an acceptable alternative to a Passport Book.
  • What if my passport is in my maiden name?
Its perfectly fine to use an unexpired passport with your maiden name on it. Just fill your immigration forms exactly the way it reads on the passport.
  • How much is the fee for customs?
Customs charges are around $45 per person. That includes BVI customs, BVI Immigration and St John Port Authority fees. If, there are less than 5 passengers on the boat, its a Holiday in either the British Virgin Islands or the USA, or its a weekend, the charges could be more than 45$ per person.
  • Why are customs fees so expensive?
We do not have an answer as to why they are so expensive, but can tell you that customs fees have nearly doubled in the last 3 years. Along with increased fees, customs and immigration offices in the BVI are changing procedures for entry which could drastically affect wait times for clearing customs.
  • How much is Fuel and Oil going to cost ?
Typically fuel and oil cost to Jost Van Dyke or just around St John are around $100-$125. If you travel to Jost Van Dyke and Norman Island ( Treasure Island, Willy T's, Pirates Bight, Caves and Indians) the fuel and oil cost should be around $200-$225. If you travel to Jost Van Dyke, Norman Island and The Baths at Virgin Gorda, the fuel /oil cost will be around $275-$300.
  • How do we pay for fuel and oil consumed?
Fuel will be charged based on usage, payable via MC, AX, Visa or Cash, directly to the fuel dock following the trip.
  • To save time can the staff fill the boat with fuel after our trip is over?
Yes. There is a $25 charge for one of the staff to fill the boat after your departure.
  • Can we play our own music?
Yes. All of our boats are equipped with Bluetooth enabled stereos.
  • Can we take an evening trip to Foxys or Bomba Shack?
Yes, we just have to pay overtime to BVI customs and then clear USA customs 1st thing in the morning.

Yes, depending on availability . Please call 340-693-8809 or email info@oceanrunnerusvi.com with your trip request.
  • Can you pick us up or drop us off in ST Thomas ?

Yes, however we do not schedule these types of trips ahead of time. These trips are only possible if we have a boat and Captain available at the requested time.
  • Can we go fishing?
Yes. We can fish in US waters from any of our boats. We work with a local company to rent fishing equipment, and you "bait your own hooks." However, if you want real deep sea fishing excursion, we can book you with a partner on a tournament style fishing boat.
  • Can we get married on a boat?
Yes. We have both an ordained Minister and photographer on staff.
  • What happens if we can not take our boat trip due to bad weather?

  • What if we change our minds and want to cancel the reservation?
All cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance or you will be charged a 50% cancellation fee.
  • If I don't see exactly what I'm looking for, can you give recommendations on other boats or companies?
Yes. It's a small island so tell us what you want and we can find and even book an excursion for you. The cost is the same, we just do the legwork for you. We can book any type of excursion you want boat trips, a personal chef, villas, car rentals, even baby sitting.
  • “Lobsters, Snorkeling and Cliff Jumping..oh my!” "We spent a glorious day with Captain Morgan! This was our first trip to the area and he managed to cram in a ton of activities and sights while still allowing us to just relax and take a slow, chill vacation day. There were 4 of us--two adults and our young adult children. He picked us up from St. Thomas and took the time to figure out what we wanted--rather than just taking us to a standard cookie cutter list of places. Over the course of the day we snorkeled and swam on quiet beaches, ate freshly cooked lobster at Sidney's, explored the area and capped off the afternoon with a leap off of a 40 foot cliff into the deep blue sea. Pure perfection. Morgan was friendly and fun. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing day on the water!"

  • "Our family of four spent the day with Jeremy as our Captain. He let us pick our day along with some of his suggestions. We ended up snorkeling at the Norman Island Caves and The Indians. Had a fabulous lunch at Pirates Bight , drinks and jumps at Willy T and finally spent some time at Jost Van Dyke and the beach . Jeremy was professional, friendly and we always felt safe. Would definitely recommend Ocean Runner for anyone looking for a day on the water." Visited July 2015

  • "What an experience. Took a trip to the British VI's to see the Bath's, Caves at Norman Island and Jost Van Dyke. Hired Ocean Runner to take us there for a full day trip. Captain Tom Larson took care of us like we were his own family. He was so knowledgeable when it came to the history of the islands surrounding St. John and the BVI's. Highly recommend Captain Larson and Ocean Runner for your excursions out of St. John."

  • "The boat we rented from Ocean Runner was well-maintained, the staff were courteous and obviously experienced, and the advice and service excellent!  We would strongly recommend OR to anyone seeking a powerboat rental while visiting St John."

  • "We have used Ocean Runner quite a few times during our family vacations and always have had a wonderful day. Last year we had a larger group and had to use another company. The difference was obvious from the get-go. Of course we enjoyed the day - it's impossible not to - but the overall experience was not up to what we have enjoyed with Ocean Runner."
