Ocean Runner is located in the beautiful Cruz Bay area of St. John, U.S Virgin Islands. You’ll find us to the right of the ferry terminals with a convenient private floating dock along the water’s edge. Our store Low Key Watersports is just across the street, which is our standard check-in location. All Boston Whaler bareboat rentals depart only from this location. If you are chartering our 60’ Sunseeker “Grateful Ted,” we will pick you up from the National Park Dock across from Irie Pops and Morgan’s Mango. Please see our Pick Up Locations page if you would like to be picked up from a different location.
-
Yes! There are several locations in St. Thomas as well as St. John where we provide pick up or drop off. See our Pick Up Locations page for more information.

If bad weather causes us to cancel a trip the customer will never lose money. We will try and re-book the trip as soon as possible. If availability or your schedule will not allow re-booking, your full payment will be refunded.
-
All cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance or your reservation may not be refunded. Please make sure you speak with someone at our company by calling 340-693-8809 between 8am – 4pm, rather than just emailing or leaving a message.

You should bring towels, sunscreen, and a waterproof bag if you have one (for going to shore). Please keep in mind that sunscreens that are not reef-safe and aerosol sunscreens are strictly prohibited throughout the day! Stop in our shop to find a variety of reef-safe sunscreens.
We also recommend bringing hats and rashguards for sun protection.
Our captained charters provide a cooler with ice, water, sodas, and some beer (about 2 per person), but please feel free to bring any beverages you prefer. We ask that you do not bring any glass bottles.
For Boston Whaler bareboat rentals, bring your own beverages to stock the provided cooler with ice. We ask that you do not bring any glass bottles.
-
No. We have snorkel gear ready for you on the boat. However, if you have small children or a number of people in your group wear the same size, check with your captain before the boat leaves and we can ensure we have the appropriate amount and sizing on board. Small children must be in a coast guard approved life vest. If you do not have one with you, please tell us in advance so that we can have one on the boat for you.

Reef-safe sunscreens are required in the Virgin Islands as those that are not reef-safe can harm or even kill the coral and wildlife. We also ask that you do not bring or use “Sport” or aerosol types of sun protection as they make the floors very slippery and they stain the upholstery. Rash Guards that have SPF built in are also an excellent option for reducing exposure to the sun. You can visit our store Low Key Watersports for a selection of reef-safe sunscreen; you even receive 10% off the day of your trip!

A passport is only required if you plan on visiting the British Virgin Islands (next group of islands over). If so, passports are required for everyone on board no matter what age, and they must not be expired! If you do not have a passport there are an abundance of islands, snorkeling spots, and fun to be had within the U.S. Virgin Islands waters.
-
It’s perfectly fine to use an unexpired passport with your maiden name on it. Just fill your immigration forms exactly the way it reads on the passport.
-
Yes. The use of a valid U.S. Passport Card for travel to the British Virgin Islands is an acceptable alternative to a passport book.
-
Customs charges are around $75 per person. That includes BVI customs, BVI immigration, and St. John Port Authority fees. This is subject to change at any point by the BVI government and is not within our control.
Trips on our 47′ Sea Ray ‘Aiko’ and 60′ Sunseeker ‘Grateful Ted’, there is also an additional $100 customs fee due to the size of the boat.
-
We must check into the British Virgin Islands and then back into the U.S. at the end of the day.
Due to changing procedures and depending on how many boats are there, customs can vary significantly from 30 minutes to 3 hours.
To help avoid extended wait times, please be sure to upload your passport to the liability waiver found in your confirmation email at least 48 hours before your trip. This will allow us to upload your information to the BVI portal in time for your trip and can speed up the process. -
Yes! Our 15′ and 16′ Boston Whalers are a great way to explore the North Shore of St. John from Cruz Bay to Waterlemon Cay. These boats may not go to any other island or outside of those limits. These boats seat 4 and 5 people respectively and we have multiple boats to accommodate larger groups. Due to our insurance policies, we can not rent any of our other boats without one of our on-staff licensed captains.
-
Yes. All of our Captained Charter boats are equipped with Bluetooth enabled stereos. You may want to bring a charging cord if you plan to use your phone for Bluetooth!
If you would like a bluetooth speaker on your Boston Whaler rental, you can rent one from the shop for the day!
